I just wanted to give a short briefing on how I manage my work and being my own PM. As an independent developer, I do work directly with customers to gather requirements, plan the work, and give weekly feedback on the projects progress back to customer and line manager. This happened in many successful projects during my time with Microsoft.
While I was a team lead, I also was the only Project Manager for the team, for several important tools development projects.
I am also currently running my own business where I have done all development of a full stack website, from SQL to Frontend UI with two paired mobile apps. I have planned and split my work in manageable sections, and continuously having a conversation going with potential customers about their needs.

Over the years, I have been involved and engaged in various non-software related activities with projects like building electronics, building PC, renovation and restauration of cars, motorcycles, tractors, houses and a small farm, were I actually was breeding Highland cattle. * I worked as Scrum Master/ Senior Software Developer in Frontiers Publishing in Lausanne Switzerland. I develop solutions for our Journal team (C#, MVC, Asp.Net, Sql Server, RabitMQ) I was also responsible for a remote team of developers in India where we outsource some of our work. I do work estimations, architecture, design reviews, and code reviews with that team. * This was very much a constant agile development of the Journal solution, without any specific projects. I learnt a lot of new disciplined ways of doing my profession as we worked together with core Office teams with same process and quality bar as any shipping product. Skills and experience of this project have given me insight in how a core development team in Microsoft works. We have worked very closely in feature teams cross Dublin/Redmond and both my feature team and leads have been in Redmond. We have been working tightly with IPE teams and vendors to make this toolset and processes around it to be the future platform of localization in MS. * I have also work with a numerous other tool over the years that have gained me experience in IPE work and Localization processes. * We have successfully been part of a team that delivered an important toolset for international versions of Office, to the same schedule as O15. * Initially in the Fabric project I did a prototype running on Azure, management didn't consider Azure a mature platform at that stage and choose SharePoint instead. * Before the Fabric project I was the developer of our Data warehouse for Office Localisation, using SQLServer and C#.

Tester
* After the Prosolvia bankrupt I started at Ericsson Telecom, I wasn't prepared for the company climate and the internal problems in the company. After two months with nothing to do I jumped into a project as a tester which gave me a good understanding of that side of software development. The computer environment with Unix boxes was also a step back in time and my personal development. The best with this short time of nine months was the work I did with RUP, Rational's development method. Environment: * Programming Languages: C++, C * Databases: Some Oracle * Operating Systems: Windows, Unix, * Scripting: Korn shell * Version Control: Clearcase, * Office tools Access, Excel, Word, InfoPath, OutLook * Charting and Graph tools Infragistics, Telerik, Google charts, amCharts (Free version) * IDE Visual Studio * Rational suite

PROSOLVIA SYSTEMS
MFC expert
* When a high-tech company decided to open a branch in the same town as I was currently working in I saw that as an opportunity to use my skills in technical engineering combined with state of the art software development. * In very short time we developed two version 1.0 projects both using MFC/C++. One was a Plant simulation system for designing plant configurations and the other program was an Industrial robot simulator, for developing/testing robot programs offline. Both programs used advanced 3D graphics. * My part in this was to be a MFC expert and was responsible for the architecture and system modelling. In the robot simulator, we also where one of the first third part companies that integrated VBA, which lead me to Redmond for a presentation of our implementation and object model, for which I was responsible (And where I met three guys from Navision as well, who was doing the same thing). Later on, I was made the general manager of our branch with responsible for 14 developers and testers for development/maintenance/testing of the Plant simulation system. * The company was before Enron and WorldCom to use flexible accounting, this lead unfortunate to bankrupt. But both of our products were sold by the trustee to new companies. The robot simulator RobotStudio is nowadays owned and developed by ABB. The Plant simulator was sold to a Technomatichs which later became a part of Siemens industrial group. * During this time, a learnt a lot about building team spirit and to tackle most of the problems that comes up in a large version 1.0 software project * In the RobotStudio project I was responsible for integration Microsoft VBA (6.0) into the project and build an OM. I did a brown bag for Microsoft staff in Redmond 1998 around that work. * I was for a period responsible (team lead) for a small team of developers to build a UI Automation framework for our desktop projects, after attending the StarWest conference in San Diego in 1998 I take the decision to use Rational Test, which has highly successful for us. Environment: * Programming Languages: C++, C Visual Basic, * Databases: Access * Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, * Scripting: VB script * Version Control:Source Safe * Desktop frameworks MFC * Office tools Access, Excel, Word, InfoPath, OutLook * IDE Visual Studio, all existing versions. * Test automation Rational Test,VB scripting.

* I was hired as a developer after I was made redundant at Volvo. First year it was mainly 4GL programming using Informix databases on HP/UX boxes. I then started up a large Client/Server project for handling of laboratory orders and the results of them. It got me into C++ programming using MFC at the client and NT-Server with a SQLServer backend. I also developed and EDIFACT gateway in that project. * During this time, there was a lot going on in the organisation and the management decided to recruit new leaders for the different part of our organisation, I applied for one of the position and after a quite comprehensive assessment I was chosen to lead the developer group of 8 developers. We covered the areas from IBM Mainframe, Unix and PC. I was also deeply involved in a quality project with goals for ISO9001 certification. * I learnt C/S programming using C++, how to manage a developer team and very much about the processes in public health care, both administrative and related to different processes in the care systems. * I got broad experience working with people in the organisations (Doctors, nurses and so on) as well with different Lab systems used by the hospitals in Sweden. * I also was the IT department's representation for one of the county's hospital (Skene hospital) where I did PM work from our customer's request and created specs, these where normally outsourced to third party companies for coding, and I was the contact to the suppliers. Environment: * Programming Languages: C++, C Visual Basic, * Databases: SQL Server, Access, Informix * Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, * Version Control:Source Safe, * Desktop frameworks MFC * IDE Visual Studio

Main project was developed in VAX/VMS Fortran77 and was a graphical/database system used in the shop to keep track of setting up cutting tools. * Other work areas were CAD/CAM where I did training for colleagues. In this time, I also bought my first PC and took up C-programming. My largest spare time project was a simulator for a CNC controlled mill. It was a DOS program with a graphical interface that simulated the layout of the controller and its capabilities. I sold it to a number of training centres. * Working in the aero engine business gave me experience of document handling and traceability/logging/version handling in everything you do. * I bought my first computer in 1980, a Sinclair ZX80.
